In addition to theory and methodology, the analysis of structures, mechanisms, and dynamics of social inequality forms a third pillar of sociological education. A special feature of the degree program at the LMU is its research-oriented training in quantitative and qualitative methods, which concludes with a research course in one of the two areas.
In all these areas—theory, methods, social structure analysis, specialized sociology, and applied sociology—students benefit from the diversity of sociological perspectives and approaches represented at the Department of Sociology, which is likely unique in the German university landscape.
Our Bachelor degree program in Sociology is accredited by the quality assurance institute ACQUIN.
Our Bachelor degree program in Sociology is a so-called "dual-subject" program: In addition to the major subject of Sociology (120 ECTS), students also choose a complementary minor subject (60 ECTS).
Subjects marked with an asterisk (*) can be studied with no scheduling overlap. Courses from all other subjects may (but do not necessarily) overlap with Sociology courses. If you have any questions or need advice, we offer academic counseling. Experience shows that even minor subjects that may experience overlap can be studied without any problems!
