Our chair teaches key methods of quantitative empirical social research. Whether you are taking your first steps in the field of data analysis or would like to deepen your knowledge, our bachelor's and master's programs offer you a wide range of opportunities:

  • “Introduction to Quantitative Methods” (lecture)

  • “Applied Data Analysis” (exercise course)

Our courses in the elective modules enable students to engage intensively with current issues and research findings in quantitative social research. Relevant thematic focuses include, for example:

  • Discrimination – e.g., in the housing market.
  • Sociology of education – who gets which opportunities?
  • Sociology of economics – how do social structures influence the economy?
  • Social inequality – developments, causes, effects.

We regularly offer supplementary events in cooperation with Chair 03, including:

  • Workshop “Analytical Sociology” at Venice International University
This brings you together with renowned researchers. Gain international experience and make valuable contacts!
(Application required, only for Master students.)

For students

We have compiled a collection of guidelines for assignments submitted at our chair. We advise you to read this information in advance, as the expectations at other chairs at the Department of Sociology may well differ.
