GLEN

German Longitudinal Environmental Study

The German Longitudinal Environmental Study (GLEN) was launched in 2024 as a nationwide panel study for social science research on the environment and sustainability. In semi-annual self-administered survey waves, data on environmental attitudes and environmentally relevant behavior, as well as on the acceptance of environmental policy measures, will be collected and made available to the international scientific community in scientific use files.

The GLEN project will thus provide data for a wide range of research questions in sociology, psychology, and economics:

  • What influences environmental attitudes, environmental behavior, and the acceptance of environmental policy measures?
  • What social redistribution effect do such measures have?
  • How do population groups differ in terms of environmental conditions in their place of residence, such as noise pollution and air pollution, but also in terms of the availability of transport infrastructure and green spaces?

GLEN is funded as a long-term project by the DFG.
