Das Buch Gender as Field of Conflict in Contemporary Social Movements emerged following the 18th Workshop of the Commission on Gender Studies and Queer Anthropology within the DGEKW, which took place in Munich from November 23-25, 2023. The conference was organized in cooperation with the Institute for Empirical Cultural Studies and European Ethnology and the Institute for Ethnology at LMU Munich, the Frauenakademie München e. V., the Petra Kelly Foundation, the Monacensia at the Hildebrandhaus, and the LUISE Cultural Center.
The highlight of the evening will be a panel discussion titled “The Revolution Is Female?!” featuring Mansoureh Shojaee and Olga Shparaga. Drawing on their contributions to the conference proceedings, they will discuss feminist struggles in Iran and Belarus, transnational feminism, and the question of what perspectives feminist movements open up for democracy and social change. The discussion will be held in English.
The book launch is also part of the accompanying program for the exhibition From Evin with Love, which presents works by female political prisoners from Evin Prison in Tehran. Following the event, attendees are invited to a guided tour of the exhibition and a get-together featuring light refreshments, drinks, and music by DJ die_ley.
