Students and staff at the Department of Sociology can use various software licenses and borrow recording devices, foot switches, and other equipment.

Please note that software and equipment are only available to students and staff at the Department of Sociology.
Stata
For the evaluation of quantitative data, the Stata program is available to you via remote desktop on our server.
Courses
Access is automatically activated for participants in courses that use Stata, based on enrollment status in LSF for the relevant courses in the first week of the semester. If you enroll later, please contact us so that your access can be activated individually.
Final theses
You will also be granted access if you need Stata for a final thesis. In order for student(s) to be granted access, the instructor must send us the following information by email:
- Student name, campus ID, and LRZ ID
- Duration of the required access authorization
- More information
- everything about the remote server
f4&f5, recording devices, and foot switches
The transcription software f4&f5 makes it easier for you to transcribe audio and video files yourself. You can control the playback speed using a foot switch.
The recording devices, foot switches, and the f4&f5 program can be used by sociology students for qualitative research as part of courses or for final theses.

Please bring your student ID and €50 in cash (deposit) on the day you wish to borrow the equipment.
Please note:
You are responsible for providing batteries (1.5 V, size "AAA") for the recording devices.
To comply with data privacy laws, you are responsible for deleting all recordings from the devices when they are returned. If you need the keep the device(s) for longer than agreed, please contact us.

All devices must be picked up and returned in person so that the deposit can be processed. Please enter the pick-up and return date in the appointment calendar (PDF, 70 KB) and write "Pick up" or "Return" in the comments field.
MAXQDA
We provide access to MAXQDA licenses for theses and dissertations via an online portal. The licenses are valid for three months from activation and can be extended if justified.
For use in courses, you will receive a course license from your instructor. If you are not a student at the Department of Sociology, you can use the MAXQDA offers for students.

Laptops and adapters
Laptops
You can borrow a laptop through your instructor for presentations on campus.
Pick-up and return are handled by the main office. Please note the opening hours.
Adapters
You can borrow adapters to connect to the projectors in the seminar rooms. The following connections are currently available:
- HDMI - VGA
- MiniDisplay - VGA
- DisplayPort - VGA
Please check in advance whether the right model is available for your laptop, or bring the necessary adapter with you.
Your instructor is responsible for issuing and returning the equipment to the main office.
If you would like to borrow something, make sure to inform your instructor in advance!
