Department of Sociology

Our seven chairs with various focus areas offer comprehensive qualitative and quantitative methodological training at the Bachelor, Master, and doctorate levels.

What we teach

Students can attend courses covering both sociological theory and the methods of empirical social research. A special feature of our degree programs is our research-oriented training in both quantitative and qualitative methods.

In addition to theory and methodology, the analysis of structures, mechanisms, and dynamics of social inequality is a third central topic covered in our sociology courses.

We offer a diverse academic spectrum including, but not limited to, the following topics:

  • Computational Social Sciences
  • Gender differences
  • Health and illness
  • Migration
  • Social inequality
  • Sociology of the family and life stages
  • Sociology of work
